Have a Unique Voice in the World: Interview with Jeff Sauer (Jeffalytics)
Jeff Saueris a born problem solver. He created his first website when he was in the 8th grade. He became a full-time Internet marketer in 2005, and since then he has helped his company Three Deep Marketing to grow by 500%.
Jeff Sauer set out to master all facets of online marketing, and now he is highly skilled in web analytics, website optimization and testing, social media, online reputation management, e-commerce, competitive analysis, email marketing, lead generation, and more. Jeff advises some of the biggest companies/ brands in the world on how to approach interactive marketing strategy best and monitors web analytics profiles for hundreds of companies and websites.
Magda: Hi Jeff, it’s great to have you here! Since you are a successful online marketer and have built websites that have achieved the #1 ranking on Google for highly searched terms, I would really like to ask you this: what is the key to success in online marketing?
Jeff Sauer: Persistence and having a unique voice. It takes time to get noticed online. Lots and lots of time and effort. You need to be consistent, persistent and have a unique voice in the world. Generic won’t get noticed, but being unique will take you a long way.
Magda: Thank you for this advice! And please tell me, what is the best advice YOU have ever received? And why was it the best one?
Jeff: Focus on doing fewer things, well. I have a tendency to think every idea is a million-dollar idea. But if you focus on big ideas and never complete them, then you will have a lot of half-finished projects. Nobody benefits from incomplete projects! So when a business adviser said to just concentrate on one thing and do it well, my business took off!
Magda: How has the marketing landscape changed since you first got involved in?
Jeff: It’s a lot harder to get noticed now. There is way more competition and simply being present is no longer enough to get noticed. You really have to be unique.
Magda: Apart from being unique, it is also important to analyze your marketing efforts. How do you use analytics and analytics tools to plan content creation and distribution?
Jeff: Google Analytics is an idea machine. You can look at your existing content reports, and get 50 content ideas from that report alone. Add in search queries reports and traffic analysis, and you should have no shortage of ideas for new content.
Magda: And what are your favorite analytics tools?
Jeff: Google Analytics, Klipfolio, Supermetrics, and Zapier.
Magda: I will definitely try them. Let me ask you the last question. Where do you see the future of online marketing heading?
Jeff: I think it is going to be like the mobile app store. The top 10 apps are all owned by a few companies. I think that online presences are heading in that direction too. If you want to get noticed, you have to align with major platforms for discovery and then transition them over to your brand.
